National Poet Nazrul's birth anniversary today

The nation will celebrate the 114th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam with festivity today. The 90th anniversary of the publication of poet's extraordinary creation 'Bidrohi' (Rebel) would also be celebrated.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate the two-day celebration at Osmani Memorial Hall in the city at 10 am. Nazrul Institute, Bangla Academy, Dhaka University, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote and other social and cultural organizations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe Nazrul's birth anniversary.
The programmes include placing of wreaths and offering fateha at the poet's mazar at Dhaka University, holding discussion meeting and cultural functions.
Kazi Nazrul Islam was born on 11th Joistha of Bangla calendar year 1306 at Churulia village of Bardhaman district in the Indian province of West Bengal. His nickname was Dukhumian. His father was Kazi Fakir Ahmed and mother Jaheda Khatun.
On the occasion of Nazrul's birth anniversary, President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament Begum Khaleda Zia gave separates messages. The government has drawn out elaborate programmes in Dhaka, Chittagong, Mymensingh and Comilla to celebrate the 114th birth anniversary of the national Poet. The birth anniversary of the national poet will be celebrated also in all the districts of the country.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels will air special programmes and the print media will bring out special supplements highlighting the birth anniversary of the national poet.
